Sandybridge is an idyllic seaside town – if you like that sort of thing – but Grace as a young woman wants more than that and she leaves home for a more exciting life. She meets and marries what she believes to be her ideal man and starts a family. But sometimes what everyone wants is not what is best for certain people and Grace is pulled back to Sandybridge by old ties and she returns partly against her will to spend time with her old friend, Charlie.
This is a gentle story which is raised out of the ordinary by the mysterious letters which appear in Grace’s old Remington typewriter – which she calls Remy. These letters give her sage advice, which she doesn’t always follow. I thought at first that the idea of the letters was a bit twee but it did serve a purpose and I thought the ending was rather touching.
While the story did hold my attention and I did like the background of Sandybridge, this wasn’t quite a five star read for me and I felt the story lost momentum in the middle. I received a free copy of the book from NetGalley for review.
